(Enid, Oklahoma) Rep. Frank Lucas has been named a U.S. Wind Champion for the 115th Congress by the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) at an event hosted by NextEra Energy, a major energy generation and development company. AWEA is presenting U.S. Wind Champion Awards to select members of the 115th Congress who have taken action in support of American wind energy.

“I am honored to receive the U.S. Wind Champion Award,” said Congressman Lucas. “Oklahoma is a leader in wind energy, and investment in this technology has fostered tremendous economic development in rural communities throughout Oklahoma’s Third District. The wind energy industry drives job creation here at home and continues to play a critical role in energy security and availability for America.”

“Congressman Lucas is a true champion for American wind energy workers and his constituents in Oklahoma’s Third District who rely on wind farms to support their families and communities,” said Tom Kiernan, CEO of AWEA. “His support for wind furthers Oklahoma’s proud legacy of energy production, boosts rural economies, and creates more American jobs. We sincerely thank Representative Lucas for his work shaping an affordable, reliable and secure energy future for our country, and are pleased to present him with a U.S. Wind Champion Award.”

Oklahoma recently rose to become second in the nation among states with installed wind power capacity, generating enough electricity to supply the equivalent of 1.9 million American homes. Wind power in Oklahoma supports 9,000 in-state jobs, seven factories supplying the wind industry, and over $12 billion in cumulative private investment through 2016.]
