Fort Hays State University Harnesses Wind to Power University

Two Vestas wind turbines will soon rise above “College Hill” providing energy to the Fort Hays State University (FHSU) campus.  FHSU President Edward Hammond announced signing of contracts for the installation of two 400-feet-tall wind turbines.

A project more than six years in the making, the FHSU wind turbines are hoped to provide annual energy savings for the university of $600,000 to $1 million. Hammond said the system is expected to be operational in 2013.

The Wind Coalition commends FHSU’s commitment to harnessing Kansas wind to power learning in the 21st century.
