The American Solar Grazing Association (ASGA) is bringing its Solar Grazing Management Certification program to Texas this fall, offering a full day of training designed to help solar companies better understand how to integrate grazing into their operations. Scheduled for October 23, 2025, the program will take place at Leeward Renewable Energy’s Horizon Solar project in Pearsall, Texas, and will combine classroom instruction in the morning with hands-on, site-based learning in the afternoon.
This training is especially valuable for solar developers, asset managers, operations teams, and sustainability professionals who want to explore the practical and economic benefits of solar grazing. By pairing solar energy production with sheep grazing, companies can address vegetation management challenges in a cost-effective, environmentally responsible way, while also supporting local agricultural communities. Participants in this certification course will learn about the fundamentals of sheep behavior, welfare, and terminology, and will come away with a deeper understanding of what grazing can and cannot provide for a solar facility. The program also covers the use of equipment, the role of herding and protection dogs, and the operational requirements that make solar grazing successful and sustainable over time.
Just as important as the technical skills are the insights the course provides on building strong and enduring partnerships with local farmers. A solar company that knows how to communicate its needs clearly and understands what grazing partners require in return will be positioned to create long-lasting relationships that benefit both sides. By the end of the day, attendees will earn ASGA’s Level 1 Solar Grazing Management Certification, a credential that demonstrates their knowledge of the practice and their commitment to advancing responsible land stewardship in solar energy development.
The program is sponsored by Leeward Renewable Energy, and registration is available for $500. Space is limited, and early sign-ups are encouraged to ensure a spot in the classroom and in the field. More information and registration details can be found on ASGA’s training page here.
Solar grazing is an increasingly important tool for the industry, offering a way to reduce mowing and mechanical vegetation control while enhancing biodiversity and strengthening ties to rural communities. For companies looking to improve their sustainability profile, lower long-term site management costs, and contribute to a more integrated rural economy, this training is an opportunity not to be missed.
