Steelhead Americas (Steelhead), Vestas North American development arm, today celebrated the commissioning of the 185 MW Delta Wind project in Mississippi, U.S., in a ribbon-cutting ceremony organised by global energy company, The AES Corporation.
Sold in 2022 to The AES Corporation, the Delta project is the state’s first wind project and marks a significant milestone in Steelhead’s role in opening new wind markets across the U.S. Steelhead led all development efforts including permitting, land acquisition, community engagement and construction design.

Seeing a wind project come to fruition from conception to construction is always incredibly satisfying, and to be the first developer to achieve this in a challenging new market like Mississippi makes it even more special,” said Chris Rogers, Senior Vice President, Steelhead Americas. “Combining Vestas’ technology expertise with Steelhead’s development expertise allowed us to develop the Delta project in a way that supports local communities and their existing farming operations while fostering long-lasting economic growth in the region.”
Tunica County, Mississippi, with its rich agricultural history in farming rice, soybeans, corn and wheat required a thoughtful approach to integrate wind energy with existing farming strategies. The Delta project features 41 Vestas V150-4.5 MW™ turbines, which have one of the highest tip heights in North America. This design enables access to stronger wind speeds at higher altitudes while allowing farming operations to continue seamlessly around the turbines.
Steelhead continues to expand into new and existing markets across the U.S. accelerating the clean energy transition and bringing meaningful benefits to local communities through job creation and economic development. To date, Steelhead has delivered 3.1 GW of renewable energy projects in North America with a further 5.3 GW in the pipeline.
