OUR STATES

Protecting Progress. Powering the Future.

At the Advanced Power Alliance (APA), our State Advocacy Program is the cornerstone of our mission to expand advanced energy markets and defend the long-term viability of energy development across the central and southeastern United States.  With the best team in the business, we work daily in state legislatures, at regional transmission organizations, before state regulatory bodies, and with state executive agencies to protect the commercial interests of our members and to champion policies that drive investment, innovation, and access to energy markets.

Our advocacy covers more than a dozen states—including Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, and beyond — representing the nation’s most active regions for wind, solar, energy storage, transmission development, and advanced technologies like green hydrogen and small modular nuclear reactors.

APA represents a wide-ranging coalition of clean energy developers, energy storage companies, major corporate energy buyers, manufacturers, landowners, rural communities and school districts, and suppliers across the energy value chain. Our members are responsible for billions of dollars in investment and hundreds of thousands of jobs in the regions we serve.

What We Do:

  • Engage at the State Capitols: We are trusted voices at state legislatures, working directly with lawmakers to shape policy that supports renewable energy growth and protects project economics. Whether it’s fighting discriminatory legislation, defending tax fairness, or drafting pro-growth bills, APA is on the ground and at the table.
  • Work with Regulators: We represent our members before public utility commissions and other regulatory agencies to ensure that permitting, interconnection, market design, and transmission policies treat renewables, storage, and advanced energy projects fairly and efficiently.
  • Defend Fair Siting & Taxation:  We advocate for siting and property tax policies that are consistent, predictable, and respectful of both private property rights and community benefits. We also counter attempts to restrict or undermine the ability of landowners and local governments to host clean energy projects.
  • Promote Transmission and Energy Storage:  We are advancing policies and planning efforts that accelerate the buildout of regional transmission and energy storage—critical infrastructure for reliability, affordability, and unlocking more low-cost, renewable power.
  • Support Local Communities:  Our members invest in rural counties and school districts through job creation and long-term tax revenues. We ensure those voices are heard in policy debates and demonstrate how clean energy is revitalizing local economies.
  • Defend the Broader Ecosystem:  From protecting access to clean power for corporate buyers and industrial consumers, to ensuring that grid reforms don’t unintentionally penalize renewables, we guard against policy decisions that could jeopardize continued growth and competitiveness.

Our Approach Is Proactive, Collaborative, and Relentless.

We build coalitions, educate lawmakers and the public, provide technical and policy expertise, and fight for a level playing field that allows clean energy to compete and thrive.

As advanced power technology and markets evolve, so does our work. The APA’s State Advocacy Program is here to ensure that our members — and the communities they serve — have a strong, unified voice engaged at every step of the policymaking process.

Cleaner. Cheaper. Made Here Energy.

That’s the energy future we’re building—state by state, law by law, voice by voice.
